Google remains a search giant, and that's something it's not forgotten at Google IO 2019. However, search is about to become far more visually rich, thanks to the inclusion of AR camera trickery coming directly into search results.
At Google IO 2019, a demo showed how a combination of mapping data and image recognition will let Google Lens make recommendations from a restaurants menu, just by pointing your camera at it. When the bill arrives, point your camera at the receipt and it'll show you tipping info and bill splitting help.
The events list for Google IO 2019 mentions Project Euphoria, which aims to leverage "Google technologies to give people with speech impairments their voice back." This proved to be a new software suite and features coming to Android, powered by machine learning.
Google I/O 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Google I/O 2021 took place online. Google I/O returned to its in-person format in 2022; the most recent event, Google I/O 2022, took place as an in-person conference for the first time since the one held in 2019.
One of Google's biggest announcement of 2019 so far is Stadia, the company's game streaming service that's currently under development. There are still many lingering questions regarding Stadia, and Google I/O is a perfect opportunity to tell us more.
Google I/O 2019 is a multi-day event running from May 7 until May 9. It all kicks off with the keynote, which starts at 10 a.m. PST on May 7, and is expected to go on for at least an hour, if not more. We expect Google will highlight a lot, so be ready for some big announcements.
Released last week for Android and yesterday on iOS, the Google I/O 2019 companion app has just added the official conference map for this year. The layout is slightly tweaked from the previous three years at the Shoreline Amphitheatre.
Google I/O kicks off May 7 in Mountain View, California, where Google will be hosting a keynote and a million other sessions at the Shoreline Amphitheater. Aside from the main IO events, there were a couple of side events organized around IO 2019. The first one I attended was on 7th just before IO and brought together Blacks and LatinX attendees to mingle and interact. On 10th the Google SSA team and Black @ organized an event bringing together black employees at Google and black attendees. It was a great opportunity to mingle and learn from the guys who work at Google. Jollof rice was in the house and so was some good African music.
Last week, Google hosted their annual developer conference, Google I/O 2019, at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. Alongside a range of office hours, codelabs and sandboxes held by Google employees from across many different departments, they also took to the stage to share advice and updates on several different topics.
Even though Google I/O is a conference geared towards developers, a lot of the content shared is incredibly valuable for SEOs and search marketers. For example, the key announcement from I/O 2019 that got the SEO industry talking was the news of evergreen Googlebot.

For my second year working on Google I/O, we created a uniquely versatile brand and digital experience for the 2019 Google I/O conference. As design lead for both brand and digital, I developed a system that would span everything from social media assets to the physical builds to create an immersive identity for the conference. To view the work from 2018, visit the case study.
Each year, the conference centers around a focus that is topical or represents a monumental shift in technology and how we interact with it in our everyday lives. This year, they focused around the topics of digital wellbeing and augmented reality technology. Our approach was to focus in on modern computing and development. What has changed and what remains to be true? Across a wide spectrum of visual and interactive applications, the 2019 brand system is, at heart, an ode to a rather common algorithm.
The Google I/O digital experience served many different functions through out the lifespan of the 2019 conference. The website launches in 4 phases. It is first launched to announce the conference and second as the pre-conference experience which serves to market the event and drive users to register. Once the conference is live, the website is transformed into a live hub, where users across the world can watch and save talks and events as they are happening throughout the 3 days. And finally, the recap website that allows users to view pictures and talks that they missed.
For 2019, we've partnered with Aira to help I/O attendees who are blind or low vision navigate the event. Aira provides free assistance to I/O attendees from trained professional agents. Download the Aira app on Android or iOS to get assistance while onsite.
Historically, Google I/O is more than just a developer conference. Although that is its clear focus, with talks on various subjects for developers spread out across the days, the company also makes feature announcements and sometimes even reveals new hardware there. The Pixel 3a, for example, was announced at Google I/O 2019, and lots of features for services like the Assistant, Google Maps, and Chrome were first revealed at the event. Google may also release an Android 13 Beta to coincide with it, as it has in the past.
Google I/O is Google's annual developer conference, where they share the latest products and technologies. GDG Philippines will bring the I/O experience to different cities through Google I/O Viewing Party and Extended Roadshow, a series of talks and workshops to help professional developers deep dive in the new technologies announced during Google I/O 2019. This is FREE; but slots are limited, so please sign up early! Filling up this form does not automatically register you to the event. Make sure to login using your Google account as we will be sending emails on your Gmail to confirmed participants at least a week before the event. Only registered and confirmed participants can be accommodated.

For Google fans and consumers in India, the biggest announcement at the Google IO 2019 is expected to be the Pixel 3a and the Pixel 3a XL. These two phones are cheaper variants of the more expensive Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3XL that were launched last year. The prices of the new Pixel 3a are yet to be revealed but leaks suggest that the Pixel 3a XL will have a price of Rs 49,999 in India.
It is also possible that the Pixel 3a and the Pixel 3a XL will be available in India right after their announcement at the Google IO 2019, considering that these two phones have been teased by Flipkart for the last few days.
The Google IO 2019 is a software-focused event as it is meant for developers, yet apart from new Pixel phones, Google is also expected to launch a new Hub Max smart display-cum-speaker. The existence of this product was revealed by Google probably in error on Nest website earlier. The Hub Max is likely to come with a 10-inch screen, a smart inbuilt Nest camera (so it will probably also work as a security camera) stereo speakers. Chances are that the Hub Max will not be released in India anytime soon.
Did we say that Google IO is a software-focused event? Okay, and when it comes to software for. Google the most important of all that it controls right now is Android. Android Q, which is the next version of Android and could be called Android 10, was revealed earlier when its developer preview was released. But at the IO the company is now expected to reveal more about the Android Q and announce its beta version. It is expected that at the IO 2019, Google will talk about the dark mode in Android Q, its emphasis on security, privacy and app permissions and few new features including official support for foldable phones. 2b1af7f3a8
